An excursion venue Sculpture by the Sea enables both students and teachers a stimulating multi-sensory experience of seeing, feeling, examining, responding, exploring, discussing, describing, imagining, remembering, speculating … all from a hands on encounter with living artworks. The exchange between environment and art demands responses even in the youngest of visitors. |

The exhibition can be viewed by walking along Cottesloe Beach, with some sculptures positioned in the adjacent park areas. Classes can therefore begin from either end of the beach, starting with the sculptures located on the Groin, or with the works located at the Northern end of Cottesloe Beach.
Buses, toilets, rest areas and food outlets are all marked on the accompanying map. It is suggested that exploring fewer sculptures in more detail will provide students with a greater enjoyment than being expected to respond to a large number of artworks. If possible teachers are recommended an advance visit to select the pieces that will suit the age group and interests of their students. |

The map indicates pathways, bus drop off and pick up points, toilets, parks, beaches, wheel chair access and information booths. Maps will be available in the catalogues (available at the booths) and Kids' Guides which are free with workshops or $5 each.

For school groups travelling by bus to Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe, the closest bus stop to the venue is on the beachside of Marine Drive, near the Tea House, Cottesloe Beach. This enables students to have direct access to the exhibition, without crossing any roads. Footpaths will lead the students to Cottesloe Surf Lifesaving Club where workshops will be conducted, which is an easy walking distance away.
There is a free bus service: the ‘Cott Cat’ that runs between Cottesloe train station and the Cottesloe beachfront. The shuttle will meet every train on the Perth to Fremantle line between 10.30am and 5.00pm daily and will return to the station from the beachfront at 15 minute intervals.
