Over the holiday period artist Stephen Marr was sent a holiday greeting from his golden buddha exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2011. Stephen's sculpture 'the golden buddha's seaside holiday' wrote to let him know he had settled into his new home.

Sculpture by the Sea, Founding Director, David Handley, will don an apron and showcase his cooking skills, helping to feed Sydney’s homeless and disadvantaged as part of the inaugural CEO CookOff being held at St Mary’s Cathedral on February 6.

Last Friday 16 December saw the unveiling of the 2009 and 2011 winning works of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi in their new home in the Royal Botanical Gardens, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Gifted by The Balnaves Foundation the sculptures are now permanently displayed for the public to enjoy year round.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of a wonderful friend, Dick Bett AM. Dick established and ran the Bett Gallery in North Hobart for 25 years and was the curator of Sculpture by the Sea, Tasman Peninsula in 2001 and for the Olympic Arts Festival in 1998.

Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi announced the recipients of the Allens Arthur Robinson People's Choice Prize and NAB Kid's Choice Prize at a ceremony held in Mark's Park, Bondi today, Sunday 20 November, 2011.

It’s always fascinating to see which sculptures are most enjoyed by the visitors to the exhibition. This year there have been clear favourites from day one for both the Allens Arthur Robinson People’s Choice Prize of $5,000 and the NAB Kids’ Choice Prize of $3,000.

This year’s exhibition has been a hit with kiddies through to art critics (well most anyway) so if you haven’t been to see the exhibition yet or want to come one (or two) more times this is the last weekend as the sculptures come down on Tuesday.

Without doubt the most important piece in this year’s exhibition has been Aurora by Sir Anthony Caro who is widely regarded as the most significant living sculptor in the world. Caro, in his mid 80’s is still extraordinarily dynamic, having a solo exhibition on the roof of the Met in New York this year of his recent (and on-going) upright series, the first of which we exhibited last year Erl King.

The Awards Judges for Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2011 Geoff Hassall (Collector), Terence Maloon (Senior Curator, Special Exhibitions, Art Gallery of NSW), Ann Thompson (Artist) were reflecting on their experience walking through the exhibition to select the award winners and were excited by the calibre of work.
