Education Program Volunteer
Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi: 3 - 20 November 2011

We are seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated people who are keen to gain hands-on experience in visual arts education. As an Education Program Volunteer, you will be assisting in the facilitation of our School Education Program, working alongside artists, students and our education staff at one of Sydney’s most exciting events.

Tasks

This role involves providing support to our education staff and artists, who will be conducting art-making workshops and tours with school groups, and assisting the participating students as needed. Our Education Program is aimed at students from K to Year 12 and will be based on site at the Education marquees at Tamarama Beach. Specifically the role will involve:

  • Assisting the facilitation of a morning and/or afternoon workshop each day, including the preparation of workshop space and materials, and clean-up of the space at the conclusion of each session;
  • Providing assistance to staff and artists before, during and after workshops;
  • General assistance with the students to make their excursion as enjoyable as possible; and
  • Providing assistance to staff and artists on exhibition tours if required.


Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Organised, punctual and motivated team member;
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail;
  • Enjoyment of working with children; and
  • Enthusiastic, well presented and friendly.


Desirable Skills & Qualities

  • Experience in the visual arts (studio-based, education and/or related fields);
  • Experience working with children and/or teenagers.

Commitment


The SxS Education Program will require the assistance of volunteers at specific times during the weekdays of the exhibition and possible weekend shifts.
Dates include 3 - 20 November, and weekday shifts will be available from 9.00am – 12.00pm and/or 12.00pm – 2.30pm
