Despite the rainy and windy beginning, the 2007 Bondi Sculpture by the Sea Education Program was a great success. With the involvement of enthusiastic artists and teachers, students were able to explore and produce sculptures of a very high standard.
The combination of unique and iconic coastal locations, the involvement of practicing visual artists and its broad accessibility makes the Sculpture by the Sea Education Program truly unique in the sphere of visual arts education.

These highly interactive workshops, developed in conjunction with exhibiting artists, were based on the artist’s work in the exhibition, exploring their sculptural practice, body of work, skills and techniques. The workshops were designed for primary students, secondary students as well as students with special needs.
Four 1 ½ hour workshop sessions were conducted each weekday of the exhibition.

Study Tours were designed to allow students to directly interact with the exhibiting artists, gaining a unique insight into their practice. The tours comprised of an introduction to the exhibition focusing on the Conceptual Framework, followed by interactive talks by two exhibiting artists in front of their work. Artists discussed issues such as concept, relationship to their body of work, development and change, technique and media.
The Study Tours were developed for secondary students (Years 7 to 12) and were available during weekdays of the exhibition. Three 1 hour sessions were offered with a maximum of 30 students per session.

This was a great opportunity for teachers to attend a preview of the exhibition, and meet three exhibiting artists. The preview included an introduction to the event, handouts, refreshments and artist led discussions. The three exhibiting artists involved in the Preview, included: Irene Hoppenberg, Abir Partwardhan and Marguette Derricourt. We were also thrilled to have Jade Oakley presenting the Sculpture by the Schools exhibition. |
