As an excursion venue Sculpture by the Sea enables both students and teachers a stimulating multi-sensory experience of seeing, feeling, examining, responding, exploring, discussing, describing, imagining, remembering, speculating … all from a hands on encounter with living artworks. The exchange between environment and art demands responses even in the youngest of visitors. |

Most of the exhibition can be viewed from a single pathway with a loop in the centre park. Classes can therefore start at either the southern end of Bondi Beach (near Bondi Icebergs in Notts Ave), walk south to Marks Park, (where students can rest, eat and/or play) and walk onto Tamarama Beach. Alternatively the reverse is also possible. Buses, toilets, rest areas and food outlets are all marked on the site map. Shorter excursions can start at either end and finish half way along in Marks Park or the reverse. It is suggested that exploring fewer sculptures in more detail will provide students with a greater enjoyment than being expected to respond to a large number of artworks over, what can be for little legs, quite a long journey. If possible teachers are recommended an advance visit to select the pieces that will suit the age group and interests of their students. |

The map indicates pathways, bus drop off and pick up points, toilets, parks, beaches, wheel chair access and information booths. The exact position of the 2008 sculptures is not included as specific sites cannot be confirmed until closer to the event, however the large number of sculptures makes them easy to find. Maps will be available in the catalogues (available at the booths) and Kids’ Guides which are free with workshops or $5 each.
