David Handley
Director

Formerly a lawyer with a Masters of Law from London University, David established Bathtub Productions as an arts & film production and sales company while he was living in Prague in the early 1990s. After working in film production in New Zealand, David returned to Sydney to establish Sculpture by the Sea, with the idea of creating a major free to the public visual arts event for Sydney.

In 2002, David was appointed to The Australian Museum Trust, an appointment, which extends to 31 December 2004.

Axel Arnott  Head Curator

Axel originally trained as a landscape architect and has worked in Australia and overseas on a range of landscape projects. In 1999 he took over the position of Site Manager to help out for a month or so with what was then a 3 day exhibition. Nine years later and he is now a devotee of Sculpture in all its forms. Sculpture by the Sea's varying exhibitions and projects offer the perfect marriage between the technical and artistic aspects of working with the landscape.

Often seen striding purposefully with a clipboard under his arm, Axel (aka Captain Issues) loves to have Bondi as his second office for a few months a year. "Off to the office..."

Holly Fisher Exhibition Production Manager

Holly graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws at UTS. Whilst studying, Holly gained experience at various community legal centres and for a number of years worked with the Sydney Festival as Artist Liaison in the Programming Department. Here, she worked on a number of international and local events and learnt the ins and outs of coordinating artists, from Colombian musicians, to French acrobats, to Melbourne dancers, to...

Since graduating, Holly joined Sculpture by the Sea firstly in the role of International Artist Coordinator, then in the position of Exhibition Coordinator and now as Exhibition Production Manager. She loves that each day her job is different, that it requires a myriad of skills, that it is in the untamed world of the arts and that it culminates in the facilitation of a major, free to the public art event.”

Davina Corti
Sales Manager

Davina has recently returned to Sydney with her family, having lived and worked in London for over 15 years.  With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Art History from the Australian National University and diplomas from Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London, she has held a variety of positions in the Art World in London and most recently worked for ten years as an Art Agent for one of the world’s leading Agents, Robert Holden, advising private and corporate clients on the buying and selling of works of art.  Davina is delighted to be back in Australia, heading up the Sales Department of Sculpture by the Sea.

Louise Halpin
Education Manager

Louise commenced with Sculpture by the Sea in September 2005. She has a Bachelor of Education (Visual Arts) and Masters degrees in Special Education and Museum Studies. She has extensive experience as a visual art teacher, which includes time spent in indigenous communities and the special needs sector. Her favourite part of Sculpture by the Sea is the kick that kids of all ages get out of meeting the artists, and seeing them develop their own artworks inspired by the sculptures and the amazing site.

Louise also enjoys swimming, gardening and flamenco dancing.

Annalyse McLeod Sponsorship & Philanthropy Manager

Since graduating from Sydney College of the Arts in 2002, with an honours degree in Visual Art (Jewellery and Object design), Annalyse has experienced her hands at a variety of demanding roles, including ‘struggling artist’!

Annalyse joined Sculpture by the Sea as the Sponsorship & Partnerships Coordinator in 2006 and after stitching up a few notches on her exhibition belt is now heading up the department as the Sponsorship and Philanthropy Manager.

Annalyse is proud to be part of such an iconic Australian Arts event and very much looking forward to visiting The Big Apple in July.

Amy Prcevich  Exhibition Coordinator

In 2007 Amy will graduate from a Bachelor of Creative Arts (International Studies) from Macquarie University with a number of internships, both international and domestic, under her belt.

In search of excitement and adventure, Amy spent most of 2006 road tripping around Europe and living, working and studying in Oxford, UK. Amy enjoys pretending to be an artist while making a mess of the paper/paintbrushes/house and through working in organisations large and small has come to realise that she loves the sweat, smiles and surprises that come hand in hand with arts administration.

Amy is very happy to be joining the Sculpture by the Sea team and being involved in all the (ordered) chaos she knows the exhibition has to offer.

Andreas Sletting Olsen

Site Curator,

Planning & Administration

After graduating as a building engineer with a focus on urban planning from the Technical University of Denmark in 2006, Andreas went traveling in South East Asia and Australia for eight months. He ended up spending a few months in Sydney, fell in love with the place, and moved here permanently in September 2007. In January 2008 he joined Sculpture by the Sea where he will work in the curation team with a special focus on the planning aspects of the exhibition.

James Collis Site Curator, Technical

Starting out as a tradesman in the metals industry and going on to complete a BA in Industrial Design, James came to Sculpture by the Sea in 2006 with a toolbox full of tricks. A hammer and tongs, from several years of artistic blacksmithing, as well as smoke and mirrors from a lifelong involvement in theatre production.

Kooky, quirky, provocateurs, and cultural commentators, we all love our artists and to play a supporting role in the realisation of their work is why I believe I have the best job.

 Camille Smetana Hospitality Coordinator

Camille graduated from UWA in 2001 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and International Management).  After quickly realising finance was not her destiny she disappeared for a brief stint to Europe which turned into a 5 year working adventure across the globe.  After various positions including chef, events coordinator and recruitment consultant she moved to Sydney in 2006.

Camille joined Sculpture by the Sea as Marketing Assistant in 2006 and now puts her love of food and parties to work in her current role as Corporate Hospitality Coordinator.

Melinda Holcombe  Assistant to the Director

Melinda received her Degree from Sydney University after four long years studying Exercise and Sports Science. Following graduation she decided Christmas Island would be a nice change and there she stayed for almost two years organising Health and Life style activities for 350 construction workers. Upon returning to the main land via an extended (and well deserved) holiday in the Philippines she decided it was time to expand on her skills and delve into a more cultural field. Melinda is happily settling into her role as David’s assistant and looks forward to her future with Sculpture by the Sea.

Favourite elements: Crisp air, sand and salt water

Jennifer Choiniere Sales Coordinator

Hailing most recently from the Big Apple, Jennifer has worked in the arts for the past 15 years.  With a BA in Art History, Jen moved to New York City to immerse herself in the culture and art scene, trying her hand in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.  Later she went on to get her Masters degree in Arts Administration from New York University.  Working with everything from photography and contemporary art to traditional Chinese art, Sculpture by the Sea represents Jennifer’s first foray into world of sculpture.  Currently loving living in Bondi, Jen is fully enjoying life at the beach and all that Sydney has to offer.

 Caitlin Doughty  Sales Administrator

Caitlin has completed a Bachelor of Design with the College of Fine Arts, UNSW, majoring in Jewellery and Environments.  She initially started working with Sculpture by the Sea during the 2007 Bondi Exhibition, undertaking part of her internship.

Although born in Sydney, Caitlin grew up in Launceston in Tasmania and enjoys heading back home when she can…mainly for the lack of traffic jams, cheap parking tickets and Boags on tap.

She is also a passionate snow skier and is ultimately aiming for a lifestyle that involves endless winters, plenty of skiing and a bit of design work thrown in to satisfy her creative instincts (and to help pay the bills)…but for now she is really excited to be working with such a great group of people, learning more and more about the world of sculpture and getting to spend a couple of weeks of the year working at Bondi Beach.
