It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of a wonderful friend, Dick Bett AM. Dick established and ran the Bett Gallery in North Hobart for 25 years and was the curator of Sculpture by the Sea, Tasman Peninsula in 2001 and for the Olympic Arts Festival in 1998.
Dick was a fountain of knowledge about the visual arts and great fun to work with, especially his cheeky and mischievous chuckle.
In recent years Dick began handing over management of the gallery to his children Emma and Jack Bett who will continue to run The Bett Gallery along with Dick's wife Carol.
We send our sympathy to the family at this sad time whilst also remembering with a smile, our friend Dick.
In recognition of Dick's work and friendship, we will invite a Tasmanian Sculptor to participate at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi each year.
