It might be getting cooler everywhere in Australia but not Perth in Western Australia where we open on 1 March running until 19 March. With over 70 sculptures from around the world to be installed from next Monday preparations are almost complete.
Highlights of this year’s exhibition include our two invited artists Steinunn Thorarinsdottir from Iceland and Lou Lambert who is the Woodside WA Distinguished Invited Artist.

Returning this year is Chen Wen Ling from China who was the hit of last year’s exhibition receiving the most votes in the People’s Choice and NAB Kids’ Choice Prizes, as well as a photo on the front page of the West Australian and the sale of his work to a major collector. Chen’s work in this year’s show is smaller but certain to attract almost as much attention. Joining Chen from China is Wang Shugang and many other works by international artists from Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Japan and the USA. Happily lots of the international and interstate artists are able to join us in Perth this year, including Peter Lundberg who is currently working at Ron Gomboc’s studio creating his sculpture that he will cast in the ground … stay tuned for photos … and Sandra Nyberg from Finland who made her work in Sydney over the past month and which just arrived in Perth with our freight.

Of the West Australian artists in this year’s exhibition many stand out including Paul Caporn (WA) with his giant yellow sculptural dump truck on the beach; last year’s distinguished invited artist Tony Jones OAM (WA); and Alessandra Rossi’s sand bag lounge room – Alessandra received one of last years $30,000 Helen Lempriere Scholarships which she is using to travel and study in New York and Europe.
We look forward to seeing you in Cottesloe and if you are visiting from interstate come and say hello in the site office in the Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club where we hold our indoor exhibition of small works: Sculpture Inside … and for everyone who visits you can pick up your copy of our 15th anniversary book at the catalogue marquee or in Sculpture Inside for $59.95 with 232 pages of images from all of our exhibitions in Australia and Denmark.
