After nearly a year of planning tomorrow morning our 8th annual Cottesloe beach exhibition opens in Perth, Western Australia. The show runs until 19 March and if by any chance you are flying in from interstate or overseas please drop into the site office to say hello. Of the sculptures already installed some early favourites include Tony Jones (WA) Lighthouse; Chen Wen Ling’s (China) Childhood – Morning; Johannes Pannekoek’s (WA) Convolution; and Michael Le Grand’s (ACT) Taiko.
If you can’t make the exhibition images are starting to go up on www.sculpturebythesea.com of the sculptures, in a week or so we will have a virtual tour of the exhibition thanks to xyz (ask Louise) and a YouTube videos are bound to start appearing, including by our much loved Rebel Penfold-Russell who is flying into Perth because, well, because she can’t help herself. Thanks Rebel who will be filming and Adam who will be editing.
At our media launch to be held among the sculptures overlooking the beach and with the Indian Ocean stretching to the horizon we will announce the recipient of the $15,000 NAB WA Sculptor’s Scholarship for a Western Australian sculptor in the exhibition. Our panel of judges is Jenepher Duncan, Curator Contemporary Australian Art, Art Gallery of Western Australia; Terence Maloon, Former Senior Curator of Special Exhibitions, Art Gallery of New South Wales; and John McDonald, Art Critic, Sydney Morning Herald. Stay tuned for the announcement!
